Research Associate/Scientist

Description

We are seeking an experienced and results oriented researcher to take on a role as Research Associate/Scientist. This is a hands-on position and a significant amount of bench time is expected.

Rapid Novor Inc. is a Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario based start-up biotechnology company dedicated to developing unparalleled analytical technologies to significantly improve early stage drug research and development in the bio-pharmaceutical sector. Specializing in the field of mass spectrometry-based proteomics, the Novor team provides antibody protein sequencing solutions to researchers in pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations and academic research institutions around the globe. We efficiently deliver accurate, comprehensive results, allowing researchers to rapidly make decisions that move their science forward.

Our office is located in the Waterloo Accelerator Centre, moving end of August to Catalyst 137. The company fosters a culture of teaching and learning, where our team members have enjoyed the interaction among coworkers from different backgrounds with different expertise in both science and business. The core technology of Rapid Novor radiates from the world’s leading de novo protein sequencing software developed by the founders. The team also includes renowned experts in the field of proteomics. Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and method development aligned with the company goals
  • Protein separation and purification, immunoprecipitation – Develop and implement new and existing methods for proteins and peptides purification
  • Sample preparation – optimize enrichment strategies, refine enzyme digestion and develop new assays
  • Quality control – ensure all developed assays are accurate, reproducible and robust
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot HPLC and ancillary peptide/protein separation equipment
  • Maintain good laboratory records
  • Review relevant literature and remain current with technological advancements in the field
  • Present data and findings to senior management
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with other R&D members in a team setting

Requirements

  • PhD in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, bioanalytical, or MSc with at least 5 years’ post-degree experience in a protein chemistry related field or any combination of equivalent experience and training
  • Good theoretical understanding of protein chemistry and strong practical knowledge of sample preparation (micro-scale preferably)
  • Experiences in protein purification (HPLC, FPLC), immunoprecipitation, protein cross-linking, bioanalytical HPLC, method development and data analysis
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving abilities with attention to details
  • Experience in biological mass spectrometry and proteomics an asset but not essential
  • Knowledge and experience in immunology is desirable but not essential
  • A good understanding of RNAseq, Ig-Seq and NGS is desirable but not essential
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to conduct and manage projects with minimal supervision
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members
  • Can legally work in Canada

Technician, Analytical Biochemistry

  • Follow standard operating procedures for sample preparation for routine LC-MS/MS analysis
  • Support the operation and maintenance of advanced state-of-the-art nanoflow liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC-MS) instrumentation
  • Assist scientists in method development and process optimization
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with other R&D members in a multi-disciplinary team setting
  • Maintain good laboratory records

Requirements

  • Hands-on experiences in protein sample preparation
  • Solid knowledge in proteomics
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skill
  • Experiences on LC-MS/MS experiments and protocols are a plus
