Position Overview

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Patient Research Coordinator. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 8 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Patient Research Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination of activities and projects related to patient partners for the Alberta SPOR (Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research) Patient Engagement Platform.

SPOR is about changing the culture of health care in Canada, and an essential component in doing so is to build our capacity for patient-oriented research, through training and career development opportunities that support the creation and application of patient-oriented research by both researchers and health care providers.

Position reports to the Principal Investigator.

This positon is for approximately 21 hours a week. 

Position Description

  • Coordinate projects involving patient partners for the Alberta SPOR Patient Engagement Platform (PE Platform)
  • Responsible for the coordination and administration of projects, resources and activities
  • Work with a diverse team, involved in research activities, service provision and patient & community engagement
  • Develop the structure, and objectives of the PE Platform strategy, evaluating activities and recommending improvements when appropriate
  • Develop documents and proposals for the purpose of presentation and publication
  • May be called upon by the Principal Investigator to act as their representative in the presentation of the work of the team  

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in patient-oriented research and patient engagement, particularly from the perspective of a patient partner is highly desirable
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Ability to plan and direct engagement activities within a team environment
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Deals effectively with complex issues and concerns
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in Digital Story Telling
  • Extensive knowledge of patient engagement practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in budgeting and resource planning
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
